Four Bulgarians arrested in Cyprus over marriages of convenience

Four Bulgarian women have been arrested in Cyprus for 72 hours in the course of an investigation over marriages of convenience with citizens of countries outside the European Union, the "Cyprus Mail” has reported. The investigation is over several cases of similar offenses committed in Larnaca and Nicosia in the period February 3 to July 29. The Bulgarians explained that they needed money and arrived in Cyprus to marry a stranger for 1,000 euro. Cypriot authorities sent a request to Bulgaria for the arrest of another Bulgarian, who organized the transactions.
