Today is the day of St. John the Baptist, Enyovden in popular tradition

The Bulgarian Orthodox church marks the day of St. John the Baptist today. In folklore tradition the day is known as Enyovden and it is connected with a great many rituals for health and fertility, as well as divinations. Enyovden is known as herb day because it is said herbs are at their most potent today.

Pharmacists say interest in different herbal products has been growing but caution that they are harmless and, in certain cases can have an effect but that they cannot replace essential medication.

53,000 people in Bulgaria celebrate their name day today - Enyo, Yana, Bilyana, Iveta, Diana etc.
