Political instability and US sanctions are affecting current gas pipeline projects, Kiril Temelkov, a former executive director of Bulgartransgaz, told the BNR. But energy projects are long-term, for this reason Temelkov believes it is unlikely the next government in Bulgaria will decide that the Balkan Stream project will not be implemented.
Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev commented that he did not expect that the US sanctions against the Russian Turkish Stream project would affect the Bulgarian Balkan Stream pipeline. This project should be seen as an expansion of Bulgaria's gas pipeline system, carried out by the state-owned company Bulgartransgaz, the deputy prime minister said.
