There are 33 species of bats in Bulgaria out of a total of 35 in Europe, and they are very important because they destroy insects - pests in agriculture. Let each of us help with the dissemination of information about the importance of bats so that we can protect them, environmentalists and volunteers involved in the organization of the Bat Night information campaign in Bulgaria say.

This year, the campaign will also focus on the issue of Covid-19. It is important to mention that consultants to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) issued a statement stating that bats do not spread the infection and that there is no evidence that bats have directly infected humans with Covid-19.

The 24th Bat Night is held in stages in different cities in this country and the aim is to show that bats are not dangerous and harmful to humans and they have an important place in nature and in the urban environment. They help a lot in the fight against mosquitoes, as a small brown bat can eat 1000 mosquitoes a night. This and a bunch of other interesting facts will be presented to every child who visits Bat Night in Ruse, organized by the Regional Museum of History in the city.

Celebrated for the first time in 1990 in France and Poland, today the European Bat Night is organized in more than 30 countries, including Bulgaria.
