The great Bulgarian actress Tatyana Lolova passed away at the age of 87. "I'm not a star, I'm a sun," the renowned actress used to say.

Tatyana Lolova was born on February 10, 1934 in Bulgaria's capital Sofia. Her father was Bulgarian and her mother was of Russian-Ukrainian descent. In 1955, Tatyana Lolova graduated from the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. In 1957, she became the first actress appointed in the newly-formed troupe of the Satirical Theater, the Hristo Botev channel of the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

Tatyana Lolova impersonated multiple characters in theatre, film and television. It is not without reason that she was often called a fury, a natural element, an unknown flying object, a gigantic actress, a titan. She won a number of awards for her creative work during her impressive career.

The documentary "Portrait of a Lady" of film makers Georgi Toshev and Ema Konstantinova revealed the actress from a close distance - with her candour, vulnerability, strength and wisdom on her 80th birthday.

"I am unable to spare my efforts, I always sing like it's for the last time in my life", says Tatyana Lolova's character in Duende - the one-actor show that she had been performing to crowded halls for 15 years.

The great actress always stressed her long-standing connection with the Bulgarian National Radio.

"I have worked at the Humour, Satire and Entertainment department of the BNR, I have read various poetical texts on the air. For years, I was hosting a show in the Folk Music editorial department. I like Bulgarian folklore but I cannot sing even one folk song fairly good. Despite this, my voice would "enter" the homes of thousands, even millions of admirers of Bulgarian folk tradition. During this period I would receive many letters from listeners who loved the shows. I have also taken part in the French-language broadcasts of Radio Bulgaria. This media means so much to me that it is impossible to describe in just a couple of sentences", the actress said in an interview for Radio Bulgaria she gave back in 2012.

Tatyana Lolova will remain in the memory of generations of Bulgarians with her unique stage presence.

In October 2020, Tatyana Lolova performed the piece "Memory Box" under the project "Singing Artists":

May she rest in peace!
