Bulgaria is increasingly establishing itself as a preferred destination for year-round spa tourism. According to data from the Unified Tourist Information System, over 13% of registered tourists in Bulgaria in 2022 preferred to rest in traditional spa destinations such as Velingrad, Hisarya, Sandanski, Razlog, Pavel Banya, Sapareva Banya, Garmen, Devin, Kyustendil, Varshets, Strelcha, Kostenets, Dolna Banya, Banite and others.
However, the real share of spa tourism is higher, since spa is also available in sea and mountain resorts. The share of Bulgarian tourists exceeds 90%, with foreign tourists in the listed municipalities in 2022 being over 70,000. Most often, the foreign guests come from North Macedonia, Israel, Romania, Greece, Germany, Great Britain and Serbia.
