As part of the ongoing care for the brown bears in the Belitsa Bears Park in Bulgaria's Rila Mountain, the Four Paws Foundation conducted annual preventive examinations. The veterinarians from Austria, Bulgaria and Germany performed ultrasound, X-rays, dental examinations and an innovative medical examination of the animals' hearing.

Most bears were found to be healthy and doing well.

The seven-year-old bear Teddy is in excellent health. Bobby suffers from coxarthrosis in his hind limbs and will undergo rehabilitation. Bears Boyka and Marinka had their damaged teeth removed. But the newest inhabitant of the park, Iva, has been deaf since birth, and it will eventually be necessary to keep her away from the rest of the animals, said Dimitar Ivanov, director of the Belitsa Bears Park.
