Music encounters with artistes from Jordan and Jamaica: this is just a fraction of the surprises that Teddy Katzarova generously offers in her new album Reborn. It gathers eleven tracks and guest performers for the album include Lennox "Buppy" Brown, Michael Fleming aka Lexus and others. One of the tracks in the album, Just Me and You has become very popular and a young guy proposed to his girlfriend as the singer was singing the piece live.
“I was deeply moved by this event, because after all, the mission of musicians is to express what they feel and come across to audiences with a positive message”, the singer says. Just You & I is presented in a duo with young Jordanian singer Fares Robert. Teddy and Fares met by chance, while he was on a business trip to Sofia. „He told me music was his hobby and gave me a CD. I immediately liked his music and this is how we ended up with a joint project”, Teddy Katzarova recalls:
“The song was recorded in an English original but Fares sang the refrain in Bulgarian, and it came out a lot differently. The lyrics were written by Emil Dilchev. 'I've got you, I've got wings, you're my universe, you're my dream: the audience has memorized this message of the song. The other composition Reborn that has lent its name to the whole album came from a few young guys. They had repeatedly told me that had written great songs for me. The music is by Stefan Petrov, and the lyrics by Ivan Bondokov. I love to experiment and I team up with people fully given to music. This is the way to create a really good song.”
There are some curious details about the making of the video to Just You & I. It was shot on location at the Perperikon shrine, South-eastern Bulgaria, as well as in the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.
“We wanted to show the beauty of the two countries, and we exchanged the locations. The scenes with me were shot in Jordan, and with Fares in Bulgaria. There is something deeply mystic about Petra where motor vehicles are allowed very seldom, permissions for shooting sessions are only rarely issued. The English language version of Just You & I has become popular in Jordan and the video was screened by the local Roya TV channel. We had an appearance there at a couple of festivals. This song is an example of how music bridges different cultures. The concept for the video is by Kostadin Krastev-Koko. We will be working together for the fourth time as we plan to shoot a video for Reborn.”
This spring Teddy Katzarova is going to have a very tight schedule. The invitation that she and her mother, singer Sylvia Katzarova, received from Norway has grown into a new project:
“When we were contacted to specify some details about the organization, we were told that the Bulgarian communities in Sweden and Denmark were keen to watch us in concert. So, I hope we are in for a mini-Scandinavian tour. This will be a sentimental occasion for me and my mom, because I have spent nine years in Sweden and Finland, and she has many friends in Norway.”
Every song from the discography of a singer is special to him or her. Lady of the Night from the album Reborn is special for Teddy Katzarova. Written by Turkish composer Albert Cam it matches the chill out style. The recitative is in French with the voice of famous writer of lyrics in Turkey Nino Varon. Teddy Katzarova told Radio Bulgaria that her dream is to shoot the video to it with Kostadin Krastev-Koko, this time in Paris. Shooting should kick off in about two months and during her stay there the singer will celebrate her birthday at the end of March.
