The National Palace of Culture (NPC) has started a new project. From 23 to 27 April it is hosting the Salon of Galleries. Lovers of fine art are welcome to see paintings, prints and photographs provided by thirty galleries from across the country.
„We have for quite some time been aware that NPC should regularly feature fine art thus demonstrating the international worth of Bulgarian artists and curators of art”, said Todor Chobanov, Sofia Deputy Mayor in charge of culture. “With this project we aim to commence a process aimed to turn NPC into a favorite place of both curators and visual art lovers.”
The Salon presents collections of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and of the municipal galleries in Pernik, Rousse, Sliven and Kazanlak. A few private galleries show works by contemporary artists and of some big names of the recent past.
Radio Bulgaria interviewed Daniela Nencheva, Director of the Dimitar Dobrovich Gallery in the town of Sliven, an institution with a history of 110 years:
“At the Salon we present works by Sliven artist Donka Konstantinova, sister of famous 20 c. writer Konstantin Konstantinov. We show 15 works by her: paintings and drawings. Last year we released a catalogue to mark her 120th birth anniversary. She had fluent technique and her works are excitingly lyrical.”
One highlight in the Salon of Galleries at NPC is the exhibition of the renowned artist Georgi Bozhilov Slona to mark his 80th birth anniversary. The Salon offers a great diversity of styles. It features the poetic paintings of Keazim Issinov, the breathtaking visual parables of Valtchan Petrov as well as works by talented young artists.
