Following the closing of the Balkan route for migrants and the agreement reached between the European Union and Turkey, there was a danger of 1.1 million people trying to cross the Bulgarian border, Austrian Minister of the Interior Johanna Mikl-Leitner has warned. The Austrian minister called for closing of the so-called eastern Balkan route because there have already been signs of increased movement through Bulgaria after closing of the Macedonian-Greek border for migrants.
