Bulgarian politicians, ministers, representatives of patriotic organizations, citizens and guests of Sofia gathered in front of the Monument to the Edirne Epopee to honor the memory of the Bulgarian volunteers and mark the Thrace Day and the 103rd anniversary since the Siege of Adrianople. Bulgaria’s Vice President Margarita Popova attended the ceremony. In her speech Vice President Popova honored the memory of the thousands of Bulgarian refugees from the Aegean and Edirne Thrace who died during the ethnic cleansing done by the Ottoman army in 1913. We gather here today to honor the memory of the Thracian Bulgarians who will live forever in our memories. Today we should talk about the destruction of the Thracian Bulgarians and ethnic cleansing of the Thracian lands, instead of foreign presence and peaceful coexistence, Vice President Margarita Popova said. We know the truth, we do not want revenge. That is the cause of the Thracian Bulgarians and we must all bow before that cause, Margarita Popova further said in her speech. Descendants of Thracian refugees also attended the commemorative ceremony.
