The European Commission has officially called on Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia to amend their national laws related to the acquisition of agricultural land. According to the Commission, national provisions may hamper cross-border investments. The request now has the form of a reasoned opinion, but if within two months time the countries did not bring their national legislation into line with EU law, the Commission may take the matter to the court of the EC, it was reported.
