“I am ready to initiate legislation changes that would clearly regulate the protection of small-scale fruit producers”, National Ombudsman Maya Manolova has told the press in Kyustendil. Maya Manolova has pointed out that cold weather in the spring has affected mainly small fruit producers in that western region who run orchards with an area from 0.5 to 1.5 hectares. She has admitted legislation is imperfect allowing easier access to compensations of big producers, but small producers too are entitled to compensations. Ombudsman May Manolova has also said she will meet with the minister of agriculture and food next week and will table the issue of compensations to cherry producers.
