President Plevneliev: Energy industry hit hardest by corruption

“The Bulgarian energy industry is the sector hit hardest by corruption,” said Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, addressing the “Conquering the state and countering administrative and political corruption in Bulgaria” 12th public and political anti-corruption forum.

In President Plevneliev’s words, each and every person in Bulgaria now has to pay for the Russian projects – Belene NPP, South Stream gas pipeline project, Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline – that fell through at the very outset. The President stated his support for the planned Anti-Corruption Law and cautioned there was no way it could start functioning if it was the result of compromise.
