Plovdiv has become the first Bulgarian city, officially accepted in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. This is the newest educational program of the organization with the ambitious aim of bringing together cities from all continents to exchange experience in various educational programs. So far the network includes 35 cities from 20 countries. Chief coordinator of the network is the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, based in Hamburg.
