Bulgaria to assume rotational presidency of EU six months earlier than initially scheduled

Photo: library

Bulgaria is to take over the rotational presidency of the European Union six months earlier than planned- on January 1, 2018. The newly-appointed Premier of Great Britain Theresa May said that her country would be too busy negotiating the exit of the United Kingdom from the union and would not be able to take the EU presidency in the second half of next year. Thus, Estonia will replace Great Britain and will take the presidency of the European Union from July 1 until December 31, 2017. Currently, Slovakia is the rotational president of the EU and Malta will take the presidency on January 1, 2017. Bulgaria will take the EU presidency after Estonia.
