Bulgaria’s men’s team lost 1:3 to Georgia at the fourth round of the Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Bulgarians who until then had had two wins and a draw, lost after Veselin Topalov with the black pieces and Momchil Nikolov with the white ones were defeated by Baadur Jobava and Mikheil Mchedlishvili respectively. At third and fourth boards Valentin Iotov and Krasimir Rusev drew Levan Patsulaia and Tornike Sanikidze respectively. Unlike men, the Bulgarian women rejoiced at their sweeping victory over Costa Rica, 4:0. The Bulgarian team including Antoaneta Stefanova, Iva Videnova, Adriana Nikolova and Elitsa Raeva had no problems with the Costa Ricans and thus took some revenge for their unexpected loss to Kazakhstan on the previous day. In the rankings Bulgaria’s men’s team is 53rd with five points, and the women’s one is 41st with the same score.
