The appeal by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov for urgent help from the EU for guarding Bulgaria's borders against the migration flow met with a positive response in Bratislava where an informal EU summit is taking place.
Preben Aamann, spokesperson for European Council President Donald Tusk stated that Bulgaria would receive sizeable support for guarding its borders and that a number of countries had already assumed specific commitments. Aamann added that national governments had also proposed material assistance. PM Borissov is expected to make public the size of the funding promised at the end of the summit. Upon his arrival he illustrated the migration pressure challenges facing the country by showing German Chancellor Angela Merkel a map of Bulgaria.
