Irina Bokova with six votes for UN Secretary-General

Irina Bokova, Bulgaria’s nomination for the post of Secretary-General of the UN received six votes in the fifth Security Council ballot. Leader in the race is still former Portuguese prime minister Antonio Guterres, again with 12 encourage votes, followed by the former foreign minister of Serbia Vuk Jeremic. Third is Miroslav Lajcak, former foreign minister of Slovakia, fourth – Susana Malcorra, foreign minister of Argentina and fifth – the former president of Slovenia Danilo Turk. The vote on 5 October will be crucial as the participants will have veto rights and will be able to block any nomination.
