It is not to the interest of Bulgaria to sell the nuclear equipment for Belene NPP after the country pays off its debt to Atomstroyexport. We are to look for a private investor, in order to complete that project, Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova announced. However, it did not become clear whether the state would participate in that project if it fails to find a private investor. Meanwhile, the Budget and Finance Committee with the Bulgarian National Assembly adopted at a second reading the cabinet’s draft bill, according to which the National Electric Company would receive financial assistance from the country’s fiscal reserves, in order to pay off its debt to the Russian company. Currently, Bulgaria’s debt to Atomstroyexport amounts to nearly EUR 630 million, including the interest rate calculated on each day of delay.
