The European Commission has decided to close the infringement procedure against Bulgaria, launched in July 2015, because of lack of adopted requirements for the control of major accident hazards. Bulgaria has informed the European Commission that it had already fulfilled the requirements through amendments to the Law on Environmental Protection and an ordinance related to preventing major accidents involving dangerous substances. This way the implementation of European standards in Bulgaria has been completed. The adopted regulations ensure proper implementation and enforcement of EU legislation in the field of prevention of major accidents involving dangerous substances, it was reported.
