Bulgarian teachers among Europe’s fastest ageing: Eurostat

A survey of Eurostat in connection with today’s World Teachers’ Day suggests that teachers in Bulgaria are among the fastest ageing ones compared to the rest of the EU. In primary education Italy has the highest proportion of teachers aged above 50 at 52.7 percent. Under this index Bulgaria is second with a share of 42.4 percent. About 85 percent of teachers in primary education are women, and respectively 15 percent are men. In Bulgaria this ratio is 94.4 percent women and 5.6 percent men. EU secondary education employs 64 percent women and 36 men. In Bulgaria this ratio is 80 percent women and 20 percent men.
