In an address on the occasion of the presidential election campaign’s start President Rosen Plevneliev called on candidates to conduct a positive campaign and matter-of-fact debates, and to focus on issues such as the pros and cons regarding the introduction of a presidential republic and ways to increase citizens’ trust in institutions. In the view of President Rosen Plevnelievthe Bulgarian nation needs neither a new serving of political squabbling nor belligerent populism used by some politicians to claim more votes. He urged the contenders in the presidential race to verbalize their ideas for solving the problems that the society is faced with.
