Commission for Protection of Competition files cartel claims against fuel companies

The Commission for Protection of Competition has filed cartel claims against six petrol and diesel retail companies-Lukoil Bulgaria EOOD, Eco Bulgaria EAD, Shell Bulgaria EAD, OMV Bulgaria OOD, Nis Petrol EOOD and Petrol AD. Based on inspections and analyses, CPC believes that the actions of the abovementioned companies were “violation consisting of prohibited agreement and/or coordinated practice of exchange of pricing information and conducting a common price policy and exchange of information on sales volumes and of other market information for the purposes of pricing cooperation aimed at restricting, preventing and violating the competition on the market of diesel and petrol in Bulgaria”. Theoretically, if the Commission for Protection of Competition manages to prove the existence of a cartel in court, each company may be fined with up to 10% of its annual turnover. In 2015 the total turnover in that sector amounted to just over EUR 3 billion, Capital daily comments.
