The Bulgarian National Assembly ratified the Paris Agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). With this act Bulgaria is joining the Paris Agreement on the reduction of climate change which will enter into force on 4 November this year.
This was made possible after the extraordinary Environmental Council in Brussels on 30 September when agreement was reached for a swift ratification of the agreement at a EU level. The implementation of the Paris agreement should avert dangerous climate change, by setting down a 2° C ceiling on global warming compared to pre-industrial levels.
