“Concluding a Good Neighbour Agreement between Bulgaria and Macedonia is an important step towards deepening bilateral relations and the European integration of the countries of the region,” said President Rosen Plevneliev after a working meeting in Sofia with his Macedonian counterpart Gjorge Ivanov.
The Bulgarian side attaches great importance to the preservation and restoration of the Bulgarian war memorials, President Plevneliev noted adding he expected a speedy solution to the issue of placing a plaque commemorating the Bulgarian soldiers who lost their lives at Kaymakhalan. The Macedonian head of state called for more regional initiatives that will make the Balkans a more active participant in the formulation of European policies. Gjorge Ivanov is paying a working visit to Bulgaria during which he was bestowed the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
