The Bulgarian National Radio has been playing for the third consecutive day jazz, classical and folklore music only, which was created by authors who passed away 70 years ago or earlier, due to a dispute with Musicautor which manages the copyrights of composers and record labels, Trud daily informs on Tuesday. Musicautor insists that the money paid by the BNR for copyrights should increase significantly. Currently, the Bulgarian National Radio is paying highest amount of money for copyrights, BNR Director General Alexander Velev said. In 2015 the BNR paid nearly EUR 250,000, but Musicautor insists that the sum should go up to EUR 900,000, which is 3.5 times more. However, the annual subsidy allotted to the Bulgarian National Radio for 2017 has not increased. We cannot afford to pay such amount for copyrights, Alexander Velev further explains. That is why as of January 1, 2017, the Bulgarian National Radio was banned from playing 95% of the contemporary music repertoire. The Council for Electronic Media showed concern and promised to help the BNR solve that issue.
