Monitoring mechanism for Bulgaria is no hindrance to its EU presidency: Frans Timmermans

Frans Timmermans

Continuing the monitoring mechanism for Bulgaria in the sphere of justice is no hindrance to its rotating presidency of the Council of the EU as of 1 January, 2018, First Vice-President of the EU Commission Frans Timmermans told reporters in Brussels and added that these two elements did not contradict each other because monitoring was not a system of punishment but a system of cooperation with the member countries. Nothing is going to happen after 1 January next year and we shall just continue to work with Bulgaria to attain our objectives, Frans Timmermans said.
