Bulgaria’s printed media accentuate on Thursday on the replacement of district governors and staff changes at the Road Infrastructure Agency and the Bulgarian State Railways made by the caretaker cabinet headed by Premier Ognyan Gerdzhikov. People linked with the Bulgarian Socialist Party and NDSV were appointed in key sectors, Sega daily writes on its first pages on occasion on the appointment of 14 new district governors on Wednesday. The newspaper adds that the caretaker cabinet has changed half of the country’s district governors appointed by the former government headed by GERB party. According to the cabinet’s press office, the replacements were due to signals and doubts related to the preparation of the forthcoming early Parliamentary elections, the newspaper further informs. The district governors are responsible for the coordination of the election process. People from NDSV and BSP replace GERB’s district governors, Trud daily also writes on its first pages on Thursday. Get Off the Gravy Train!, Duma daily writes on occasion of yesterday’s replacements of 14 district governors.

The caretaker cabinet cleansed the Road Infrastructure Agency after the tragic accident on Hemus Motorway, Capital daily writes on its first page. Yesterday’s staff changes of district governors were accompanied with dismissals at the Road Infrastructure Agency and the Bulgarian State Railways, the newspaper further writes. The changes were due to the catastrophic condition of BDZ and the accident in Echemishka tunnel when a corroded lamb beam fell on a passenger vehicle and killed a 64 years-old Bulgarian woman sitting in the front seat. The newspapers also focus on the reactions of GERB members on occasion of yesterday’s replacements of district governors. Former Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov said that the actions of the caretaker cabinet were pure revanchism. However, Former Deputy Premier Tomislav Donchev said that the cabinet cannot be subject to criticism for its actions. In his words, the former cabinet had resigned and the new government has the right to make such changes. The names of the newly appointed district governors are reason for concern though.

Bulgaria’s printed media also informs about forthcoming rare astronomical phenomena. People will be able to see three astronomical phenomena on Friday night- a snow moon, lunar eclipse and a blue-green comet, Trud daily informs on Thursday. Full Moon in February is also known as Snow Moon, because of the last month of snowfalls. The lunar eclipse will begin at 12.34 am and the blue-green 45P will pass at its closest distance from Earth- at about 12 million kilometers.

Rich get richer, poor become poorer, Standard daily writes on its first pages. The newspaper summarizes data of the Bulgarian National Bank, according to which the number of small deposits at the Bulgarian banks fell at the expense of the deposits to the tune of EUR 500,000 or over.
