Photo: library

Bulgaria’s Constitutional Court abrogated with unanimous decision the text of the Election Code, according to which those citizens who fail to cast their ballots in two consecutive elections of the same kind will be erased from the electoral lists for the next elections. According to the court, this sanction contradicts to the national Constitution. Compulsory voting becomes formal and the citizens will not bear any consequences if they don’t fulfill that requirement.
