Bulgaria’s caretaker cabinet will not support the plans of Italy, Germany, France and Spain about a two-gear Europe, the country’s printed media accentuate on Thursday. Bulgaria is against a multi-speed EU, Sega daily writes on its first pages on March 9. President Radev will inform today Brussels about the decision of the Bulgarian cabinet, the newspaper further informs. Sega quotes the decision of the caretaker cabinet that “Bulgaria insists on the preservation of the unity and the integrity of the European Union. The integrity and the unity of the union must not be ruined through transition to a new model of multi-speed Europe.” The EU members should overcome the differences and reach agreement under common purposes, in order to oppose successfully to the ideas about an EU running at different gears, Sega daily underlines. Standart daily frontpages a headline: “Bulgaria’s caretaker cabinet to President Rumen Radev: Bulgaria must oppose to the idea of a two-speed Europe”. The newspaper publishes a commentary of caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Radi Naidenov who believes that the EU member states are the ones which determine the future of the union. We must realize that the future of Europe is in our own hands. We are not doomed. However, we must be more active and fill those who live by the rules with more courage, Minister Naidenov specifies. Trud daily reminds on March 9 that the scenario of a Multi-speed Europe is only one of the five options the EU can choose. All options were described in the White Paper in the future of Europe which was presented by EC President Jean Claude Juncker on March 1 in Brussels. On March 7 the leaders of Germany, Italy, France and Spain met in Versailles palace near Paris and chose the option of a multi-speed Europe. Dnevnik daily quotes Bulgaria’s caretaker Deputy Premier Deniza Zlateva that “Bulgaria will not benefit from further fragmentation of Europe-to core and periphery.” In her words, the Bulgarian caretaker cabinet has not yet discussed the pros and cons of the five scenarios of the EU White Paper and believes that this would be a very long process.
