Ombudsman Manolova: Double standard of food quality in EU affects children

In a letter to European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vĕra Jourová, Bulgarian ombudsman Maya Manolova called for an end to discriminatory attitudes and double standards towards Bulgarian consumers.

Manolova said that offering products with lower quality in Central and Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria, large multinational companies producing food and drinks put consumers at a disadvantageous position in comparison to the situation in the so-called old democracies.

Most often consumers of products of inferior quality or even harmful foods in EU are children, Bulgarian Ombudsman, Maya Manolova, wrote.
