Migration pressure from Turkey decreased by 60 percent in 2016

According to data by the Bulgarian Border Police, in 2016 a total of 4127 illegal migrants were detained trying to enter Bulgaria from Turkey. This shows a decline of 60 percent in comparison to 2015.

At the same time 14,310 third-country nationals were stopped on their way out of the country, which is a rise of 21 percent in comparison to 2015.

Nationals of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria and Iran were those who made the biggest number of attempts to cross the state border illegally.
