Government repeals decree on integration of foreign nationals with right to asylum

At an extraordinary sitting, the cabinet repealed the decree on the integration of foreign nationals with right to asylum (ordinance No. 208), endorsed in 2016.

The motive is that the document is ineffective and that since its endorsement not a single municipality has concluded an integration agreement with beneficiaries of refugee status, said Interior Minister Plamen Uzunov and added:

“The decree now in effect is inefficient – it creates many problems as it is connected with other regulations that should be enacted. We have ascertained that each new regulation hinders its future amendment, that is why we decided to repeal it. Our decision is fully coordinated with President Radev.”

A new ordinance will be endorsed on 7 April.
