Bulgaria should adopt a national strategy aimed at solving the problem related with the pollution of air with fine particulate matter, the Chairman of the Association of the Environmentalists of the Bulgarian Municipalities Nikolai Sidzhimov told the Bulgarian National Radio on Thursday on occasion of the decision of the European Court of Justice to sentence Bulgaria for violating the EU directive on ambient air quality between 2007 and 2014. In his words, the authorities continue providing coal and raw wood to the most-vulnerable social groups in Bulgaria who use the most inefficient heating devices in Bulgaria. On the other hand, the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water has been developing a national programme on air quality in support of the Bulgarian municipalities. The authorities will adopt national measures, including administrative, legislative and financial measures.
