Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Armenians welcome Resurrection together

Orthodox Christians, Catholics and members of the Armenian Church were together to meet the Resurrection of Christ in the Bulgarian City of Ruse on the Danube, known for its ethnic and religious diversity. This year the date for Easter is the same for the three communities. They gathered in Bishop Bosilkov St. where two churches stand in close proximity – St. Nicholas Orthodox Church and the Catholic one St. Paul of the Cross, BGNES reports.

Under the canon the three communities are not allowed to hold a joint service. Therefore, after the bells started ringing at midnight and each church had its service completed worshippers went out of the churches led by their priests. The Catholics were together with the Armenians led by Fatherr Walter Gorra and Father Dirair Hadavyan. Orthodox Christian priests were led by FatherStefan who in fact a few years ago suggested all Christians getting together for Easter when their dates coincide.

"There is no such division that is greater than God's love and fraternal love. And with great joy in this bright Paschal night, I congratulate Father Walter and all our brothers and sisters from the Catholic Church, Father Dirair and all our brothers and sisters from the Armenian church with the great Paschal joy and with the Paschal Greeting of Christ is risen”, Father Stefan told the crowd.

His brethren from the other two churches also found symbolism in the gathering of the three communities. "Easter day coincidence gives more joy, because on the same day all Christians celebrate this holiday, which is generally celebrated separately, but it is better when we can have it on the same date," Father Walter said. "Our Lord taught us to be united in our faith, not to be divided, and perhaps this is today’s symbolism”. “In these difficult times that we are experiencing, we, Christians, must be united more than ever", said Father Dirair. After the Orthodox Christians went round church, each community continued the feast in its respective church with the Passover Liturgy.
