Meetings and rallies have taken place in many countries around the world on the occasion of May 1 - the International Workers' Day.

In Bulgaria trade unions organized a series of events, including a conference dedicated to the payment of workers and their rights, an exhibition of cartoons and a rally starting from Sveta Nedelya square in the capital city of Sofia. The Bulgarian Socialist Party also traditionally marks the day with a meeting.

Historically, May 1 was chosen to be International Workers' Day to commemorate the  Haymarket affair in Chicago from May 4, 1886.
