Over 14,000 migrants left Bulgaria in 2016

According to an analysis of Eurostat about the implementation of the migration legislation in the EU countries, 14,120 foreign nationals from non-EU countries left Bulgaria in 2016. Meanwhile, a total of 2,170 foreign nationals were banned from entering that country. Data of the Bulgarian State Agency for Refugees shows that in the first six months of 2017 a total of 2,084 non-EU citizens sought asylum in Bulgaria. Over 800 of them were nationals of Afghanistan and the Syrians amounted to 545. 314 Iraqi citizens also sought asylum in Bulgaria in the first six months of 2017.
