In a telephone conversation, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has discussed with the EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Karmenu Vella the current situation related to the Kaliakra protected area on the Black Sea coast after the Minister of Environment Neno Dimov issued a ban on the development of agricultural activities in the Natura 2000 area.

The order triggered protests and road blockades and was revoked. In the conversation between Vella and Borissov, it was pointed out that European Natura 2000 legislation does not prohibit economic activities, including agriculture, and ways in which the decision would not harm the interest of people in Dobrudza will be sought after.
