President Rumen Radev met with the Bulgarian community in Chicago within the frameworks of his working visit to USA.

He commended them for their efforts to keep the Bulgarian spirit alive, for the schools and churches they have set up there as well as for the recognition of the Bulgarian language as official in the system of education of Illinois and assured them that he will continue his support so that this cause, taken up by Bulgarians in USA ,may be implemented in other states as well.

During his visit to New York, President Radev visited the local Department of Education where he received assurances that recognizing the Bulgarian language in the state’s education system is to be put to discussion. The Bulgarian president appealed to the Bulgarian community not to allow their children to forget their mother tongue or lose their Bulgarian identity.
