Bulgaria will ask for EU assistance to overcome flood damage in the Black Sea region of Burgas as soon as local government is ready with a full inventory of damage incurred by affected infrastructure, said MP and former Environment Minister Ivelina Vassileva, quoted by FOCUS News Agency. Meanwhile, the government has decided to allocate 500,000 euros to the region. For the time being, flood damage during the week has been estimated at 2 million euros.

Vassileva referred to specific requirements of the European Commission for financing from the Solidarity Fund. These relate to the amount of financing needed to make up for incurred damage.

Today volunteers and Bulgarian Red Cross members from Burgas and Sofia arrived to the region to distribute food, water, clothes and other basic items.

The Road Infrastructure Agency has summoned its teams for repair of national roads damaged by the heavy floods during the week.
