Spain supports Bulgaria Schengen accession

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva has met for talks in Madrid with her counterpart Alfonso Dastis Quecedo and with Justice Minister Rafael Catala.

The sides have discussed the EU agenda pertaining to defense and security, migration pressure, asylum policy, creating new jobs, cohesion policy support and Brexit.

Zaharieva has been given assurances that the Spanish government will fully support Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen, as well as the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The foreign minister has recalled that Bulgaria is one of the first having voiced support for the territorial integrity, constitutional order and sovereignty of the Kingdom after the emergence of the crisis in Catalonia.
