At a meeting in Sofia, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has been discussing the recent request of the Macedonian Orthodox Church for recognition of its autocephaly (independence).

Upon entering the Synod, Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte commented that the Bulgarian Church should accept the hand offered by the Macedonian one.

A silent vigil is being held in front of the building of the Holy Synod in support of the Macedonian request. A great number of public figures and citizens, including Deputy Prime Minister Krassimir Karakachanov are present there, despite of snowy weather.
