4.8 earthquake shakes Plovdiv and Assenovgrad, wakes up Sofia

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook Plovdiv and Assenovgrad in Southern Bulgaria during the night.

The tremor was felt by people living on the upper floors in Sofia as well. The National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography reports of dozens of aftershocks of smaller magnitude. No material damage or injuries have been reported. According to data of the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre the tremors were felt in Northern Greece and in parts of Macedonia.
