Number of car thefts in Bulgaria down by one third

Interior Minister Valentin Radev stated, in answer to a question by an MP in parliament, that in 2017 the number of car thefts in Bulgaria had gone down by around 29 percent compared to 2016.

The detection rate was 13.68 percent as against 9.81 percent in 2016 – approximately 4 percent higher. The cities with the highest rate of car thefts are Sofia, Varna, Bourgas, Plovdiv. The tendency is towards stealing higher class luxury car makes.
