Simrik Air Pvt. Ltd company has informed the Bulgarian Embassy in Beijing that three fully equipped helicopters departed from Kathmandu Airport to join the search for Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov who has been missing for days in the Himalayas.

Currently, the helicopters are at the base camp under Shishapangma peak and are waiting for the wind to ease before flying at the planned altitude. The teams of the helicopters consist of experienced pilots and mountaineers, including people who know the area near Shishapangma peak in details.

Stormy winds have brought to a halt the air rescue operation in search of climber Boyan Petrov. The three helicopters are not able to continue the search above 5000 m due to stormy winds.

China has recruited about 100 rescuers, said China’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Zhang Haizhou in connection with the rescue operation searching for the Bulgarian climber Boyan Petrov in the Himalayas.

The first group of more than 12 rescuers are already on their away from the base camp located at 5800 m, to Camp 1 at 6400 m above sea level.

Tomorrow seven of the group of twelve plan to head to Camp 2 located at 6800 m above sea level in the Himalayas. They are expected to reach Camp 3 on the day after tomorrow. Camp 3 is at an altitude of 7300 m.
