Bulgarian National Assembly adopts amendments to Penal Code that envisage tougher penalties for domestic violence

The Bulgarian National Assembly adopted at first reading amendments to the Penal Code that envisage tougher penalties for domestic violence. Non- physical domestic violence (bullying and chase) will be penalized with up to 5 years in prison. The same offences in non-domestic conditions will be penalized with probation or 1 year in prison. The legislative amendments were proposed by National Assembly President Tsveta Karayancheva.
