Gazprom has decided on the route of the future Turkish Stream gas pipeline, Kommersant newspaper informs on Thursday. The gas pipeline can pass through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia. Gazprom is planning to start gas supplies to Bulgaria and Serbia through the Turkish Stream in the beginning of 2020. It will start supplying gas to Hungary two years later in 2022. Thus, Gazprom will be able to reduce gas transit through Ukraine in 2022. The second pipe of the Turkish Stream will have a similar route as the South Stream gas project. In 2014 the EU asked Bulgaria to suspend the project, because it did not comply with its rules. Today, Gazprom’s strategy fully corresponds with the EU legislation.
The press center of the Energy Ministry commented for BNR that Bulgaria has not been officially informed by the Russian side yet that "Turkish Stream" will pass through Bulgarian territory.
