Three Bulgarian weather stations which are part of the network of the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), are among the 70 meteorological stations across the world which have operated without interruption in the past 100 years. They were recognized as world cultural and scientific heritage by the World Meteorological Organization of the United Nations. These are the weather stations in Obraztsov Chiflik (opened in 1889), in Sliven (opened in 1890) and Knezha (opened in 1910). The weather stations functioned even during the wars of the first half of the 20th century.
