Forty-three people have been detained in Sofia and six other towns in an operation by the specialized prosecutor’s office, the State Agency for National Security and the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime.

The operation was against an organized crime group committing crimes connected with the financing of terrorism, though not with any terrorist threat on the territory of Bulgaria, said Deputy Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, commenting on the specialized operation against persons investigated for crimes against the state. It has been established that the chief organizer of the criminal activities is a Syrian national residing in Bulgaria. The people detained include two Bulgarian citizens as well as foreign nationals.
